WHEN WE WERE YOUNG(2)

Image
Hello! Welcome again! After my friend, Mesuur's suggestion (that inspired this post-https://brownrings.blogspot.com/2019/10/when-we-were-young1.html), Gbenga's suggestion came. Gbenga and I met on LinkedIn when I was newly out of NYSC, and I was practically panicking because I didn't want to be unemployed. One day, I'll write about my job search after NYSC, the jobs that I worked/ work and the stories that came/come with them. Gbenga has a "peculiar" surname, and when I asked what it means, he sent me a recorded call with his Father explaining the name. So, Gbenga told me a short story of his childhood, when they'd sweep at home and his dad would say to ensure to dispose of the dirt properly otherwise, bad luck will follow. I laughed at his suggestion, but it made me think about a lot of things. First, I realize that a lot of fables were told to achieve a moral endpoint even if they  lacked any sense  were fallacious, and of course, some were outright j

Hi guys, I hope you're doing fine? So, this is the first in the series that I promised to write about. I recently asked my friends to recount stories, events and sayings from their childhood, and how it might have informed some thoughts and patterns in their lives today and I got a reasonable number of responses. My friend Mesuur was the first to respond, and she said "Write about the "stigma" attached with wearing trousers as a female child" Mesuur's parents were not the average Nigerian parents who had issues with the piece of clothing, but of course , an African child can't be raised by only the opinions of her parents. Her neighbours would pass comments about how sinful her parents must be to allow their girl to wear clothes trousers. Eventually, trousers were a part of her wardrobe growing up, and they still are today. Makes me think about how rare that might be, or maybe not, maybe it depends on what part of the country you grew in and also you

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIII!!!!

I'll tell a story, it's what I do anyway 🤷‍♀️ It's a really long story but hopefully, I'll compress it to a single blog post. September 2012, I had just resumed 100 Level, 10 days after resumption date and I had one friend that I knew from home, she was basically the only person I knew from my set. I was a shy, awkward and reserved being; I hardly spoke and I had bad mouth odour 😭 (I think I also didn't know how to brush properly). There was this igbo girl with ugly bootcut trousers and weaves that my new course mate Ebun, described as "mad woman's hair". I soon discovered that this igbo girl was my classmate,  which was the reason I saw her that often. I also discovered that igbo girl spoke really smartly when she opened her mouth, (which was frequently),  and she was the king of sarcasm. In a short time, Igbo girl, myself and my other four friends bonded. Her name is Chinomnso, with all the "Chi's" in the world. Today is her birt

WHAT IS GOING ON?

Hi guys, its been a while, again. I know. First, I must confess that my post title does not necessarily have a meaning per se , I just thought of a random heading that might  draw your attention lol   be used. How are you  doing? How's life, how's all that matters to you? How has your year been too? On this side, I've been doing okay, I guess. About three weeks ago, I asked for opinions for a series that I was going to publish here, and I started one, really. Then, I lost someone dear to me and mine. I wasn't sure I wanted to continue writing, or if I felt like writing at that particular period, those were days of grief, memories and of course, family. I almost wrote a tribute here, but I also was not sure it would be appropriate. In my tribute to him, I promised to write a book about his life, he lived a selfless life. I plan to get due permission from family, as the  title and its framework and theme are all in my head. I thought of why people generally express
